Introduction Blog Post
I am of Caucasian descent. Most of my ancestors came
to Texas and Louisiana in the 1800’s from Scotland, France, Germany, and
Southern Italy.
I do
not have any solid religious beliefs, not because I think they are all wrong or
misguided, but only because I am really not sure of anything concerning god, or
other religious questions. M
y only political beliefs are that I think the
structure of corporations should be democratized, no matter how little
education a worker may have, they need to be included in the decision making
that effects their day to day lives more than anything else, as we spend most
of our time in the workplace. So, while democracy is sacred for Americans, we
do not extend that to our work places, which in America, affects our lives more
than the government does. I also very strongly believe that everyone should be provided the basics such as food, healthcare, and shelter if a society has the capacity to provide
it, which ours does. Because even if nobody agrees on or is sure of anything, we
must at least take care of each other. Whether you are disabled, too old to
work, or someone who is plainly not productive, it does not mean you should
have to live on the streets, nor in conditions so impoverished that it is
virtually impossible to lead a decent life with any semblance of dignity.
Compared
to most people I have not had to face much adversity in my life. The biggest
obstacle came in the form of recurring anxiety attacks that caused me to be
briefly hospitalized at one point. Thankfully, while I still have moments where
I feel an attack coming on, I have developed coping mechanisms which help to
bring myself back into my body when it happens.
My
understanding of diversity is that it refers to the differences, mostly racial,
between certain groups. I am not sure why diversity is controversial for so many,
frankly I think it is just racial anxiety manifesting itself, so there are no
redeeming qualities to that point of view. No matter how fervently some may
argue for the theoretically greater cohesion of a homogeneous society.
My
greatest fear is of dying without having made plenty of strong connections with
other people.
